Mary Elizabeth Inciso Lindsey was born on April 19, 1922 in Plainfield, New Jersey. She peacefully passed away at home in Mobile, Alabama on January 9, 2019. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Eugene Lindsey, a native of Foley, Alabama, whom she met while he was stationed in New Jersey with the US Army. “Mary and Joseph” appropriately married on Christmas Day in 1945. Mary was very proud to be the daughter of a Scottish Mother, Helen Hopkirk Inciso, and an Italian Father, John Louis Inciso. She grew up in a home full of love shared with 7 sisters and 2 brothers. Except for the youngest sister, Betty Inciso Francis, her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Mary bravely moved with her husband and children to the Deep South to raise their family. Mary, also known as Nanna, is survived by her children: Deborah J. Lindsey, Gene E. Lindsey (Jan), and Susan D. Lindsey. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Brandi, Brian, and Jonathan, and 5 Great-Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dylan, Jay, Colton, and Jackson. Mary was devoted to her family and was a very talented cook and seamstress. She learned to be an expert in Southern cuisine, as well as sharing her Italian cooking skills. Mary’s seamstress skills created many stunning styles from an Azalea Trail dress to recital and Mardi Gras costumes. She loved to knit creating many special items for her family. Later in life, Mary began a career in the retail business with Hammels’s in downtown Mobile, and later with the lingerie department in Dillard’s at Bel Air Mall. The family would like to thank SAAD’s Hospice Care for their wonderful loving care. A celebration of life will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home Monday, January 14, 2019 with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Mobile ASPCA.
