She was born on July 1, 1940 in Brighton, the daughter of Charles Keaten and Christie (Corson) Keaten.
She graduated from Somerset Academy in Athens, class of 1958.
She married the love of her life William O. Whiting on Oct. 29, 1960 in Athens, sadly he was suddenly taken from her in February of 2006.
Betty worked for Medway Shoe and Lighthouse Footwear as a handlacer, spending many years between the two.
Betty was a dedicated Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother attending almost all school and sporting events, often arriving before players and coaches (in order to get her preferred spot). Over the years she spent countless hours planning and preparing for family reunions and gatherings which usually included a creative surprise, that could only be dreamed up by her. She loved to dance, travel and enjoyed gambling. She was an avid scrapbooker and enjoyed writing rhyming jingles which she collected into an entire book. She was known for her famous Whoopie Pies, quite often they were gone before it was dessert time. She enjoyed going out to lunch every month with "The Girls". Betty took pride in the care of her home and grounds. She loved spending time with the family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two sons, Timothy Whiting and his wife, Sandy, of Athens, Brian Whiting and his wife, Janice, of Skowhegan, three grandchildren, Sarena Haynie and her husband, Andrew, of Athens, Joshua Whiting and his wife, Breanna, of Harmony, Zachary Whiting and his companion, Courtney Rolfe, of Skowhegan, 7 great grandchildren, Ella, Silas, Finnian, Abram, Karson, Caraline, and Addison, four sister-in-laws, Joyce Norman, Gwen Pomerleau, Sherry Polzun, and Frances Keaten, many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
She is predeceased by her Mother and Father, husband William and many brothers and sisters.
The family extends a special thank-you to Auntie Gwen for her assistance and loving care of Betty.
