Daniel Brinson Gillikin, age 81, of Dunn Road in Godwin passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at his home. He was born on November 9, 1937 in Staten Island, New York to the late O’Neil Brinson Gillikin and the late Helen Marie Cartmell Gillikin. He was also preceded in death by his wife Sara Mae Gillikin and son-in-law David Charles Willis. Daniel was an avid hunter, even going on two big game hunts in Africa. He owned various businesses throughout his lifetime including a gas station and his own auto repair shop and a commercial shrimp business. He loved to fish! In his younger days he loved to ride around on his Indian Motorcycle. He was an amazing automotive mechanic and had a passion for cars, had many project cars where the most pride was in his fully restored 1950 Mercury. He loved his family. He will be remembered as a gentle, loving, strong and kind man.
Daniel leaves behind to honor his legacy his daughters: Helen Ann Gillikin-Willis of Otway, North Carolina, Judy Kay Gillikin Albright of Godwin, North Carolina, Deborah Marie Gillikin Barber and husband Robbie of Waco, Texas, Diane Beth Gillikin Herman and husband Jeff of Gloucester, Virginia, Dale Caroline Gillikin and husband Dan Smith of Newport, North Carolina, and Donna Marie Wade-Smith and husband Howard of Godwin, North Carolina; sons: Dennis Dale King of Edgewood, Texas, Wayne Iastan King and wife Sue of Smithfield, North Carolina, and Tracy Douglas King and wife Susan Kayreen King of Godwin, North Carolina; brother: Dennis O’Neil Gillikin and wife Lynn of Hartfield, Virginia; beagle dog: Dozer; Sixteen grandchildren and Nine great-grandchildren.
You are cordially invited to a time of visitation on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home, 401 W. Cumberland Street, Dunn, NC 28334 or on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Otway Christian Church , 242 Gillikin Road, Beaufort, NC 28516 and at other times at the home.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Old Bluff Church Cemetery on Old Bluff Road in Godwin, North Carolina with Rev. JD Tew, Kevin Strickland and Howard Smith officiating. A second graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Daniel B. Gillikin Cemetery on Ivey Gillikin Road in Otway, North Carolina with Rev. Jack Mumford officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
