Mr. Wayne J. Edney, age 70 of Potsdam, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 after a long battle with cancer at his home while under the care of his loving family and Hospice and Palliative of the St. Lawrence Valley. Wayne was born August 31, 1948 in Norfolk, VA to the late John Edney Jr. and Dorothy Bartlett. He lived in Tidewater, VA while growing up and working. He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School, then attended Old Dominion University for 3 ½ years.
Wayne had a marriage to Becky Hash that ended in divorce. He then was married to his soulmate Michelle E. Glasgow. Wayne started working in the grocery business on his 16th birthday while he was in high school. He remained involved in the grocery business throughout his 46 years in the business. He started as a grocery attendant and worked his way all the way up to store manager. Wayne was raised by a single mom and then his mother married Captain William “Bill” Davis. Wayne considered Bill to be his real father. They were very close. Wayne also served in the United States Marine Corps in Virginia Beach and served 2 more years in the Marine Reserves. Wayne retired at the age of 62 and he moved to the North Country in 2010.
After moving north, Wayne really loved watching the wildlife in his back yard. He and his wife settled on the River Road and enjoyed it very much.
Wayne is survived by his wife Michelle Edney; son Ryan (Maureen) Edney of Lakeworth, FL; daughter Leslie Harp Edney of Chesapeake, VA; brother Galen “Rocky” (Mary) Edney of Virginia Beach, VA; step sister Laura (Jim) Bucher; step brothers Jim Davis of Texas and Be (Ying) Ha of Albany; grandkids Colin and Liam Edney, Taylor and Logan Harp; in-laws Marlene and Bud Ashley and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father John T. Edney, his mother Dorothy Bartlett Davis and his step father Captain William Davis.
