Jim was born in Ravenna, Ohio on July, 6, 1944 to parents John and Mildred (Kline) Hilgert Jr. He spent a career as a union carpenter, self-employed carpenter and retired from Kent State University as the carpenter supervisor. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served his country in Vietnam. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time hunting and relaxing at his property in southern Ohio. Jim enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty (Moore) Hilgert and his children: Cindy (Jeff) Wallis and Jeff Hilgert. Jim is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He also leaves his siblings: Robert (Gladys) Hilgert, Dolores Heldreth, Kathy (Bill) Adelman, Mary Ann Hilgert, Martha Hilgert, Bernice May, Connie (Tim) Cole and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Dorothy Garman.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E Main St, Ravenna, from 3:00pm until the 5:00pm Memorial Service officiated by Rev. James Lang. Private inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ravenna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Center of Hope in Ravenna.
