Andrew “Andy” Meyer, 89, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away January 24, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 2:00pm, with visitation time from 1:00-2:00pm preceding the service all at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home. Interment with Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the KCK Firefighters Historical Society.
Andy was born January 14, 1930 in Bern, Kansas to Emery and Lydia Meyer. He graduated from Bern Rural High School and joined the Army. Andy served as a Corporal during the Korean War in the 1st Battalion, C Battery, 17th Field Artillery unit and was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Norma on June 19, 1954. Andy was a firefighter for the KCK Fire Department for over 44 years and was known to many as a "Legend." He was also a member of the AFLCIO Union. After his first wife passed in 1992, he married Fidelis on October 2, 1994. Andy was an avid golfer and bowler, and enjoyed going hunting. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge. Andy was very family oriented and was a perfectionist when it came to maintaining his home and lawn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma Meyer in 1992; his second wife, Fidelis in 2006; his son, Robert Meyer in 2007; and his brother, Clyde Meyer.
Andy is survived by his daughter, Marshele Grauberger; his son, Jon Meyer and his wife Sherrie; his five siblings, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
