Robert A. "Bob" Turner, age 85, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his residence with his wife by his side. He was the husband of Carol A. (Tokarz) Turner to whom he had been married for nearly 50 years.
Born in Fall River a son of the late Roger A. and the late Helen C. (Flanagan) Turner, he was a longtime resident of Somerset.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he served on the battleship the U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Korean Conflict. A skilled lineman, he worked for the former Fall River Electric Light Company for 38 years before retiring in 1996.
A communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Somerset, Mr.Turner also enjoyed many years at Little Beach in Dartmouth with his family lobstering, swimming and digging for clams and quahogs. The family would like to thank Dr. Marvin Berman and Dr. Mark Shparber for years of excellent care and also to Southcoast Visiting Nurses Association for their care and compassion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Robert A. Turner, Jr. of Braintree, MA, Michael Turner and his wife Trudy of the Marshall Islands, Susan Robinson and her husband Jeff of Odenton, MD, James Turner and his wife Ann of Fairplay, CO and Nancy Maurer and her husband Chris of Aurora, CO; one sister, Ann Gillespie Herne; four grandchildren, Abigail Turner, Elyse and Bryson Maurer and Wyatt Turner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Roger A. Turner, Jr. and Helen Lou Flynn.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 8:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County Street, Somerset followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South Street, Somerset. Visiting hours will be prior to the mass from 8:30 – 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his honor to the charity of your choice.
