Anna Marie Huesing, of Holland, passed away Wednesday January 31, at 5 a.m. after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. Her children, Lisa Jurries and Steve Huesing, were by her side as she went home to her Savior after 77 years.
A native of Sassenheim, Netherlands, Anna arrived in Michigan at the age of 9 years-old along with her parents, Bart and Hilda DeJong, and brothers Bud, Bart Jr and Cory. She graduated from Holland High School in 1959 and later studied business at Grand Rapids Community College. Many in the area may remember Anna from her 43-years at the two Meijer locations working as a cashier.
Friendly, professional and full of life, the divorced mother of two rarely took a day off of work and imparted that work ethic into her children by that example. Still, she was excited to start her much earned retirement at 63 and sadly was diagnosed with her liver disease shortly thereafter. A member of Peace Lutheran Church of Holland, Michigan, Anna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing cards, bowling and trying her luck at the penny slots. Her favorite game was Nerts which she played often with her sister-in-law Ursula Huesing. She also enjoyed spending time with her dear friend Phyllis Mix-Mars.
Anna is preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Hilda; her brother Bud; guardians Joe and Mable Gadziemski and their children, Rosie and Delores; and brother-in-laws Ted and Jack Huesing. She is survived by her children, Lisa and Steve (and their spouses Brian and LZ); brothers Bart (and his wife Ellen), Cory (and his partner Tina Bergs) and Michael Gadziemski; her sister Linda Solomon; grandchildren Sandra Wilfore (and her husband Chris), Alex Kolk, Sammie Kolk (and her boyfriend Danny), LZ Isaiah Granderson; sister-in-laws Ursula and Kathy Billerbeck; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitations are from 6pm-8pm on Friday, February 8th and 11am- noon on Saturday, February 9th at Peace Lutheran Church, located at 389 James Street Holland, Michigan 49424.
The funeral starts at noon on Saturday, February 9th at Peace Lutheran Church followed by a luncheon. Flowers can be sent to Lakeshore Memorial Services located at 11939 James Street Holland, Michigan 49424 and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Holland.
