Father, grandfather, husband, and friend, Paul Maran, passed away Saturday February 2nd after a well-fought battle with Parkinson’s and Cancer. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, daughters Lisa and Beth, son-in-laws John and Neal, and grandchildren Daniel, Amy, Robyn, Kevin and Sara.
Paul was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933. He was a life long learner, obtaining his bachelors, masters and proudly his doctorate in Sociology of Education from USC. From history to sports to current events, he was always up for a discussion and quite often a debate.
Paul married the love of his life, Harriet in 1955 after his tour in the Army. They moved to California in 1970 to continue his career in advertising and publicity for Warner Brothers and Universal Studios. He left the movie industry and began a career in education where he taught Special Ed in a local high school. To his students and peers, he became known as “Dr. Paul”, teaching life skills and sharing his love of singing and sports.
As everyone knows, Paul was a natural athlete and an amazing grandfather. His passion for sports extended well beyond his own game, as he was truly everyone’s biggest coach and number one fan. He could be seen cheering from the sidelines at every tennis match, karate tournament, soccer game, ballet or piano recital and any other activity his children or grandchildren ventured into.
We will honor Paul’s life on Thursday, February 7th 2019, 11:00am at Pierce Brothers Memorial Park – 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
