She was a woman of incredible strength and faith who had battled ovarian cancer for over 26 years with a fierce determination to live her life and spread her infectious smile to all those she met.
Norma was pre-deceased by her beloved husband and pharmacist Edward R. Ponzini, with whom she worked side-by-side in Newark’s Stadium Pharmacy and Liquors on Roseville Ave. for over 33 years.
Her love of life and creativity touched every facet of the business, which from its humble “drug store & soda fountain” origins grew into a flourishing custom candy and chocolate business with orders piling in country-wide. This endeavor eventually grew to include a summer café operation in Ortley Beach, NJ under the name Café Guido. She would very often work alongside her family overnight to fill the orders for her chocolate covered creations while Ed ran down to Ortley to tend the café following a full day of work behind the counter. A closer team never existed.
Time and again, Norma’s faith and love of family secured her the strength to continue her long battle, and her association with the Religious Teacher’s Filippini was a source of great comfort and camaraderie throughout her life.
Norma is survived by her sister, three children, and three grandchildren in addition to all those who loved her dearly.
Her presence, indefatigable faith, and a seemingly unending pool of love and creativity will be sorely missed by all.
Services will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ. On Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers kindly make contributions in Norma’s memory to Pink & Bloom Foundation, Inc., PO Box 7352, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
