Stephen T. Dziegelewski, of Berkley age 74, passed on February 4, 2019 at Shelby Nursing Center in Shelby Township, Michigan. He was born August 3, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to Chester Joseph and Mary (Grzesiak) Dziegelewski. In his youth he loved bird training and raising homing pigeons, dogs, cats and all wildlife. At age 19, Steve joined the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 to serve in the Vietnam War. When he came home, His love of all animals compelled him to work at the Humane Society of Detroit and Royal Oak. After retiring from Berkley Public Schools, he enjoyed gardening and photography and going on long bike rides, 20 miles or more, and walks at Stoney Creek Metro Park. Steve is survived by sister Renee Derey of Chesterfield; Bette Gibbs of New Baltimore; brother John (Nancy) Erickson of Lexington, Kentucky; ten nieces and nephews, Annette Harvey, Patricia Drake, Cheryl Hartley, John Derey, Joe Derey, Kathleen Benevides, Judith Powell and Brian Derey, and Lonny Dziegelewski and Larry Dziegelewski; great grandnephews and grandnieces; and one great great grandniece and one great great grandnephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Chester J.(Betty) Dziegelewski; brother-in-laws John Derey and Kenny Gibbs; and nephew David Dziegelewski.
