Ms. Johnson Walker was raised in a rural setting and graduated from Liberty Hill High School in May of 1941. She married Yates Johnson of Briggs, Texas in August of1942. After her husband served his country overseas during World War II, they moved to Corpus Christi. Novella had a long career with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times newspaper. She retired in 1984 and relocated to their family farm in Western Bee County. In 1999, being a recent widow, she returned to her homeland, the Georgetown area. She was very active as a member of the Georgetown Church of Christ. Novella learned early in life to depend on God's spiritual strength for everything and to love others selflessly. She modeled this Godly character in all aspects of her life, being a willing servant of Christ, not only for her family, but also the Georgetown community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert W. and Roxie I. (Lewis) Barker and thirteen siblings. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Yates Johnson. She is survived by sons, Gerald L. Johnson (J. V.) of Abilene, Texas and James D. Johnson of Chandler, Texas; five grandchildren, Clay Johnson (Anita) of North Richland Hills, Texas, Shelby Rogers (Andrew) of Seattle, Washington, Alyssa Roden (Ryan) of North Richland Hills, Texas, Kemper Johnson (Helen) of Plano, Texas and Gillian Hendricks (Jason) of Alphretta, Georgia; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. She will be laid to rest at the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas.
