Leroy (Lee) Philip Haas, age 87, died Feb 4th, 2019. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he lived in Florida since 1990. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. During that time he spent two years on active duty in Japan. He worked 38 years for American Can Co. retiring in 1988. Starting with the company in Wisconsin, he also worked in Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois. Additionally he spent several years abroad with company assignments in Australia, Puerto Rico, Panama, England, Venezuela and Mexico. After retirement, he became an International Mfg. Consultant and returned to live and work in England and Australia as well as jobs in Korea and China.
Preceding him in death were his parents Henry and Katherine Haas, his son Michael Haas as well as his sister, Gloria Baker. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geraldine (Gerri). They were proud parents of three children including son, the late Michael Haas (Kim) of Mooresville, NC, daughter Pamela Wallace of Milford, MA and son Brad Haas of Austin, TX. They have seven grandchildren – Jessica, Michael Jr., Jennifer, Samantha, Tanner, Taylor and Tara. Also survived by his brother Albert (Barbara) and by beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.
For many years he along with his son Mike was a member of the Papa Pig and the Posse BBQ championship cooking team. They enjoyed competing at various events and won many awards. Since 1990 he was an active member in the Island Dunes Condo community on South Hutchinson Island in Jensen Beach. Over the years he served on the Condo Board, Country Club Board and the POA Board. He enjoyed playing golf and was very proud of his two Hole-in-One trophies. Swimming was also an enjoyable part of his day. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church where he regularly ushered on Sundays. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan!
