Lahoma was born in Amarillo on August 21, 1925 to James and Ruby Walters. She was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and a proud Daughter of the American Revolution. She enjoyed and excelled at genealogical studies and worked extensively on related family histories and was eager to share her findings with all who were interested. Lahoma and Doyle often shared peaceful vacation times in Colorado where she could photograph natural settings, clouds, wildlife and especially humming birds.
Lahoma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Doyle Hunnicutt. Lahoma was the beloved mother of Michael Hunnicutt and wife Marianne of Illinois, and Timothy Hunnicutt and girl friend Cora Mueller of Lubbock. She was grandmother to Michael’s children, Katherine and spouse David, Eric and spouse Stacy, and William; and to Tim’s son Kenny and spouse Rae Ann. She was great grandmother and namesake to Katherine’s daughter Elizabeth Lahoma, Eric’s daughter Ann Matilda, and to Kenny’s sons Braydun and Blayne. She was aunt of Forrest James Walters and spouse Betty. She is survived by her lifelong friend Claudette Stubblefield, whose friendship she cherished as a sister.
Lahoma often told the story of help that they received from the Salvation Army during the Great Depression in the 1930’s and was always quick to praise their efforts to help those in need. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army.
