Melvin Humphrey was born September 23, 1943 in Washington County, Georgia. He was the fifth and last child born to Elijah and Leona Humphrey. Melvin departed his earthly journey on February 17, 2019.
Melvin joined Jordan Station AME Church, Sandersville, Georgia at an early age. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Melvin moved to Atlanta from his Washington County hometown to attend Morris Brown College. He began a long term affiliation with St. Mark A.M.E. Church. Following his time at Morris Brown, he began his work career with Lockheed Martin Corporation. In 1976 he moved on to Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. After 28 years of dedicated service, his career ended graciously and he would retire.
On September 5, 1983, the light of his life, Erica Monique Humphrey, was born to Melvin Humphrey and Rosilyn Curry. Melvin cherished his only daughter with all his heart. His pride and joy, Melvin was overjoyed when she married SSG Kenneth Holloman. He later became the proud grandfather of Richard Hooks and Kenly Jeanette Holloman.
Melvin was predeceased by his wife Mrs. Georgia E Humphrey: parents Mrs. Leona Langston and Mr. Elijah Humphrey; his brothers Mr. Elijah Humphrey, Jr., Mr. Leon Humphrey and sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Callier Johnson and Mr. Alonza Johnson. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Erica Holloman (SSG Kenneth Holloman) his son Marcus McLester; two grandchildren Richard Hooks and Kenly Holloman ; sister Mrs. Adell H. Outler; sister-In-law Mrs. Minnie Humphrey; nephews Mr. G. B. Outlaw (Kandy), Mr. T. D’Andre Outlaw (Kathy), Mr. Keith Mills (Cheryl), Mr. Harold Humphrey (Veronica), Mr. Zachry Freeman and his only niece Linda Humphrey and a host of great nieces,nephews and devoted friends.
