Doris Elizabeth Schultz Sowder was born June 6, 1923 in Wallins Creek, KY. She grew up and lived most of her life in New Tazewell, Tennessee “Her Home” Once a Volunteer, always a Volunteer. She loved to watch the Vol football games on tv on Saturdays and cheered them on through good and bad times.
She passed away on February 21, 2019 at Wellstar Community Tranquility Hospice in Austell, GA. She had been living in the Atlanta area for the past 20 years.
She worked for the Department of Human Services, in Tazewell for 32 years and was a former member of New Tazewell United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School,
She has many friends in East Tennessee which she has always called “HOME”.
Preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Earl and Melvin Schultz, husband Rudolph Sowder, son Jerry Sowder, sister Helen Pressnell and brother Lt Col Jackson Kermit Schultz.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn Sue Sowder Henderson, Villa Rica, Georgia, loving daughter-in-law Martha Sowder Whitworth, New Tazewell, TN. Grandchildren Mikel Henderson (Mary) of Tallahassee, FL, Paul Henderson (Tami) of San Antonio, TX, Frannie Henderson, Cari-Anne Oakes and Beth Selvey (Will) of New Tazewell. Great grandchildren, Casey and Tyler Camp and Amber Ray of the Atlanta area, Justin Henderson of San Antonio, Miss Brady Lynn Henderson, Tallahassee, Olivia Oakes Wilson (Bryston), Zoe and Emma Selvey of New Tazewell. Great-great grandson Rhyett Wilson and a host of nieces and nephews.
