Hoang Quang Pham (patron Saint Thomas) was born on December 30, 1950 in Kampot, Cambodia to Ho Quang Pham and Hao Thi Dao. He was the fifth of eight children. Hoang attended Le Bao Tinh High School in Saigon and worked as a radio technician for the Voice of Freedom Radio Station before immigrating from Vietnam. In 1975, Hoang relocated to St. Charles, Illinois where his first job was a janitor until finding work as an electrical inspector at the Dukane Corporation. As a young man and throughout his life, Hoang had an enthusiasm for learning and self-improvement. This quality drove him to pursue and graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois in 1982. During that time Hoang also met his future wife, Trinh Huyen Vu, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and they were later married on December 18, 1982. Hoang and Trinh settled in Carrollton, Texas where he worked over 25 years as a design, product, and test engineer for Texas Instruments in the Dallas area.
Hoang was a devoted family man and a devout Catholic. He was the backbone for his wife and his three children Julie, Jason, and Jennifer. His emphasis on learning and religion paved the foundation for their Catholic education upbringing. For sixty-eight years, he lived as an example of how to serve God, respect and care for family, and love others. He will be remembered for his patience, kindness, generosity, and willingness to put others before himself. Hoang enjoyed traveling with family and friends, gardening with his wife, his weekly lunches with friends, and watching American action films with his children.
Hoang dedicated his time and energy volunteering and supporting the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Carrollton, Texas for over 20 years. As a proud member of the League of the Sacred Heart and the Church finance committee, he was a vital part of the spirit and life of the community and an integral role in the workings of the church. He took great pleasure in having the opportunity to work and support all the Church groups and committees. Hoang had such a selfless heart and was always ready to listen or lend a hand. Fellow parishioners were like family, and the parish will forever be his second home.
Hoang was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer October of 2018. He was blessed to have all his relatives and friends visit the last few months of his life. He was strengthened by everyone’s love and laughter and comforted through their warm wishes and gifts of savory fruits, especially durian. It was a true testament to the lasting memory he left on others. Hoang peacefully passed away Thursday morning February 21, 2019 with his family by his side. He truly cherished all the memories with family and friends and we know he will continue to listen and smile down on us.
Hoang was preceded in death by his father, Ho Quang Pham, his mother, Hao Thi Dao, his brother, Hien Quang Pham, and his brother Hung Quang Pham.
