Laura S. (Cabral) Lopes, 98, of Rocky Hill and formerly Hartford, beloved wife for more than 45 years of the late John M. Lopes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on February 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Vitor and Isidora (Cabral) Sousa. She was a longtime, faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She loved crocheting and gifting family and friends with her handmade treasures. Laura’s priority was raising her family and she devoted her life to them. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be forever missed by her five children, Vitor Lopes and wife Mary of Citrus Springs, FL, Fernando Lopes and wife Amelia of Vernon, Lucy Coelho and husband George of Citrus Springs, FL, Joanna Moura and husband Celso of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada and Laura Daponte of Taunton, MA; 16 adored grandchildren and 29 cherished great-grandchildren. In addition she leaves several relatives and friends. Laura was predeceased by her son-in-law, Joe Daponte and three sisters, Isidora Chaves, Maria Helena Cabral and Branca Natalia Cabral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (March 11) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
