Having grown up in very modest surroundings, he wanted his family to have the very best.
After joining the Army at the age of 17, he excelled in all of his training and planned a military career.
During his 2nd tour of duty in Vietnam, his helicopter was shot down by hostile fire sending him to Walter Reed Hospital for 93 days and eventually home classified as 100% disabled.
In 1973, he met and married Sharon Spivey, the love of his life. In 1979, they were blessed with their daughter Denise. Living with a disability gave him a special insight into how to help others.
Throughout Denise’s school years he was always volunteering for field trips, mentoring other students, and working in the library. David joined the Citizens on Patrol (COP) program at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) in January of 2000. He was part of the Search and Rescue Team, Elder Services Team, and the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. He also responded to many media inquiries as a member of the POI Team. Overall, David donated 32,506.5 hours to the SCSO. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughters Denise and Tammy, and son Michael.
He was a loving, caring, and kind-hearted husband, father, and friend. His kind and jovial nature will be sorely missed.
