It’s difficult to define Anita Hamil Frazier’s life in a few paragraphs because she was a dynamic woman who was incredibly loving, spirited, gentle, smart, funny, and fearless. Anita made such a positive and lasting impact in her 55 years, and will be deeply missed but never forgotten by all her family and friends.
Born Anita Marie Hamil on August 2, 1963 in Lancaster, California, she was the third child of Lafayette and ElDora Hamil. Anita spent her childhood years in the Antelope Valley and graduated from Quartz Hill High School in 1981. She excelled at every subject in school, garnering the accolade of being 3rd in her class. She also loved being a part of the drill team, performing at numerous foot-ball games and local parades.
Anita always dreamed of attending college at UCLA, it was her first choice and she lived her whole life as a proud Bruin. Anita received both a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications (graduating magna cum laude), and a Master’s of Business Administration from UCLA (Class of 1991). While an undergrad, Anita got the opportunity to be a flag-bearer for the closing ceremonies for the 1984 Summer Olympics in LA.
Anita spent the majority of her working career in sales and marketing in the en-tertainment and video game industries. Anita worked for Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Vivendi Universal Games in executive sales and marketing positions. Anita spent 12 years with the NPD Group as an executive director representing both their video games and toys practices and was responsible for both client and business development. Most recently she was the Senior Vice President for Marketing and Sales for IDW Publishing in San Diego. Anita loved her work and was a highly regarded and respected as a senior-level executive. Anita developed many lasting relationships over the course of her accomplished career, and took great pride in mentoring junior executives with whom she worked.
29 years ago, Anita met and fell in love with her husband Grant while both were attending graduate school at UCLA. They were married on November 11, 1995 in Napa, California. Together they had four amazing sons: Alexander, Rhys, Kevin and Aidan, who were born and raised in California until they relocated to Amherst, New Hampshire in 2010. There, they lived until 2017, when they re-turned to Carlsbad, Ca. where the family resides today.
Anita had a magnetic smile and a distinguishable laugh that would ignite a room. She loved to cook and made many dishes that have become legendary, such as Hunan dishes and post-Thanksgiving turkey-bone gumbo. She was passionate about music of all genres and was always the first on the dance floor. She enjoyed traveling and had countless friends all over the globe.
Anita passed away on March 3rd, 2019 and is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Hester. Anita is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband Grant, sons Alexander, Rhys, Kevin and Aidan, sister Melisa, brother Jeffrey, many nieces and nephews, and a large extended circle of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 4:00pm at
El Camino Memorial-Encinitas.
