Betty Huffman Richards, born April 5, 1928, made her journey home on March 7, 2019. Betty was a wife, mother, aunt, sister, daughter, Nana and Great Nana. Betty began her career as a maid at the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC, working for the Cecil family, decendants of the builder, George Vanderbilt. After her marriage, Betty worked for J.C. Penney Co. for over 35 years in a variety of positions. Betty was jokingly known as the VP of operations when a manager was unavailable. She and her late husband, Roland B. Richards, enjoyed a variety of activities including boating on the lake, square dancing and bowling, which Betty continued to enjoy until recently.
She is survived by her children, Jane Sharp and her husband, David Sharp of Chattanooga, Mary Ellen Camp and her husband, Ron Camp of Atlanta, GA, Tom Richards and his wife Cathy Richards of Huntsville, Al, and John Richards and his wife, Jennifer Richards of Nokomis, FL.
She had five grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She also remained close with numerous nieces and nephews. Betty will be remembered for her quick wit and ability to show anyone how to do anything whether they asked or not. She is loved and cherished by many who came in contact with her. She made friends easily and often amused her children when traveling by telling stories of her childhood growing up as the eldest of five daughters of a Forrest Ranger with the National Park Service.
So, God Speed, Betty, Mamma, Nana, and Aunt Betty. We love you and you will be missed dearly.
