Cheryl Gay Owen, 65, passed away at home in Kansas City, MO on March 6, 2019. She was born on June 3, 1953, the daughter of Mona and Charles J. Owen. She attended Southwest High School. She retired as store manager at Gaines Furniture Outlet. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her mother, Mona, and her Uncle Bill. She worked and volunteered through Team Depot Foundation for Sister in Christ, Tabitha's House and American Legion.
Cheryl enjoyed making jewelry, reading and gardening. Her favorite flower was the Peony. As a child, she loved catching frogs; and as an adult, she loved catching fish with her brother Chuck, daughter Kasie and her boyfriend Scott. She also enjoyed thrift store shopping, slot machines and trips to the casino and bingo.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter Kasie Owen and son Mike Haggerty; her nephews Josh and Jacob Curtis; her mother, Mona Owen; her sister Jodie Wenzel and husband Mike; nieces Kim, Brandee and Bre; her sister Sandie Gaines and her husband Bob; niece Missy and nephew Bobber; her brother Chuck Owen and his wife Peggy; niece Jessica; nephews Chas, Tyler and Brett; her brother David Owen and his wife Annie; nieces Katie, Laura and Gracie; nephews Chris, Mark, Nick and Luke; and sister Keri Hakan. Countless great nieces and nephews adored her. Cheryl loved her sister-in-laws, Janette Barrera and Janice Osborne-Evans. Last but not least, her dear little dog, Bug.
Cheryl was reunited in death with her beloved sister, Sue Curtis, her father Charles J. Owen and brother-in-law Paul Hakan; grandparents and Auntie and Tootie.
Memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at McGilley Sheil Chapel. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at Nativity Ministry Center, 10017 E. 36th Terrace South, Independence, MO, served by the Altar Society at 12:30pm.
