Philip Patrick McLaughlin, 83, of New City, NY passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, surrounded by family. Born on August 21, 1935 in Bronx, New York, he was the first of six children of the late William and Mary (Sheehan) McLaughlin. He grew up on Teller Avenue and 165 Street in the Bronx where he met the love of his life at the age of fourteen, Mary LaForgia.
Philip served in the United States Navy in the Pacific from April,1953 until he was honorably discharged in August, 1956. On October 5, 1957 he married Mary and the couple had six children. His fourth child, Philip Patrick Junior predeceased him in 1965. He devoted himself to raising his five children and went on to love and adopt a grand niece. Philip graduated from Iona College in 1965 With a B.B.A. in Marketing and enjoyed a long successful career as a Network Planner with the New York Telephone Company. Philip gave the best of himself to his family and was known among family and friends for his sharp wit and ability to also laugh at himself.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 58 years Mary, and sister Joyce. Left to
honor Philip and remember his love are Philip’s six children, William (Gabriele) McLaughlin,
Marie (Larry) Watkins, Donna (Patrick) McKeon, Diane (Robert) Sullivan, Joseph (Sheila)
McLaughlin, Christine (Raymond) Licata, brothers William (Margaret), Patrick (Bernadette),
sisters Marie Guerin, Margaret, twelve granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11 at 10 am at St. Augustine’s Church, 140
Maple Ave., New City, NY. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 10 W Stevens
Ave., Hawthorne, NY. The family will greet friends from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, March
10, at the Higgins Funeral Parlor in New City, NY. The family welcomes any expression of
sympathy; those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Philip to the
