Elsie Wolf Jarvis, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019, at North Shore Hospital in Miami, FL. She was born March 1, 1932, in Havana, Cuba to Luis and Margarita (Serrano) Wolf. She emigrated from Cuba to the U.S. in July 1960, and married Donald Jarvis on February 15, 1969, in Miami. Together, they had two sons. Elsie and Don enjoyed worship at St. James Catholic Church as well as traveling and raising their beloved family together.
Elsie had a lifelong passion for reading and learning. She loved to read mystery novels and learn about the world through books and travel. She worked as a bilingual stenographer and executive assistant for Selecciones del Reader’s Digest, in Havana and then Reader’s Digest Latin America, Inc., in Miami.
After taking a hiatus to raise her sons, she returned to work as an administrative assistant at Barry University’s Adult Continuing Education (ACE) program for 14 years until her retirement in 2002.
In retirement, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Donald II (Rose) Jarvis, and Louis (Karen) Jarvis; four grandchildren: Virginia, Donald III “Tres”, Ruby, and Ana Jarvis; two brothers, Luis (Sara) Wolf, and Jorge (Lourdes) Wolf and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in passing by her devoted husband of 43 years, Donald Jarvis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 13155 NW 7th Avenue North Miami, FL 33168. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery, 11411 NW 25th Street Miami, FL 33172.
