Daniel Lee Colteryahn was born December 14, 1948, in St. Louis, MO to Henry and Dolores (Vierheller) Colteryahn. He passed away in Olathe, KS on March 10, 2019 with his children by his side. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Paulette. He is survived by his two children, Sarah (Brian) Meyer and Michael (Caitlin) Colteryahn, and two grandchildren, Liam and Caleb, as well as his Aunt and Godmother, Shirley Vierheller.
Dan was a cherished son, devoted husband, and loving father. He was a proud Eagle Scout and shared his love of scouting and the outdoors with his son and guided him and others as scoutmaster for several years. He especially loved birds and bird watching, a hobby he learned from his father and shared with his children. Dan was an avid cook and loved to share his culinary creations with family and friends, especially early morning breakfasts. Some of his most cherished times with friends as a young man were spent at the cabin in Lake Ozark, MO where he would get up before dawn to enjoy the peaceful early morning calm on the water. An enthusiastic dog-lover, in later years Dan could hardly be separated from his loyal companion, Amos. He was passionate about cars, especially classic muscle cars, and would happily regale friends and family (and strangers) with stories of his youthful driving shenanigans. Dan’s sharp wit and teasing jokes will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services to be held at a later date in St. Louis, Missouri.

A Bird Song
Christina Rossetti
It’s a year almost that I have not seen her:
Oh, last summer green things were greener,
Brambles fewer, the blue sky bluer.
It’s surely summer, for there’s a swallow:
Come one swallow, his mate will follow,
The bird race quicken and wheel and thicken.
Oh happy swallow whose mate will follow
O’er height, o’er hollow! I’d be a swallow,
To build this weather one nest together.
