Kathie Lynne McDonald was born January 5, 1951, in Walla Walla, Washington, to Russell Leonard McDonald and Millicent Edna (Sorenson) McDonald. She graduated from Marshall High School in Portland, Oregon and later attended Portland State University. Kathie married Jeffry Lynn Dullum in Salt Lake City, Utah on Nov. 19, 1971. Shortly thereafter they moved to Florida where their first three children were born and later returned to Portland where they raised their family.
Kathie’s lasting legacy and greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. Through word and deed, she taught her children to work hard, to serve others, and to love unconditionally. Ever attentive to the needs of her family, her whole life was defined by countless and continuous acts of selfless service. Her children will miss her Sunday night phone calls, her thoughtful, personal, often homemade gifts, and those big family dinners and other gatherings filled with laughter and music. Her grandchildren will miss their visits to grandma’s house (where there was always a treat waiting), her attendance at their concerts, plays, and sporting events, her phone calls on the first day of school, and the cards and presents that never failed to arrive on every birthday and every holiday. But mostly, she will be remembered for her unyielding desire and drive to ensure everyone felt loved.
As a devoted member of her faith, Kathie carried that sense of love, belonging, and service to her church community. She worked tirelessly for decades serving and teaching others, primarily in the youth and seminary programs. She is remembered for being a master scriptorian, for being a dedicated and talented teacher, and for her undying commitment to her students, to her callings, and to God.
Kathie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Cindi Jolyn Dullum, who she finally gets to hold close in her arms as she always did in her heart.
Kathie is survived by her husband, Jeff; brothers, Steve Loveland and Roger McDonald; 8 children, Wendy (Duane) Bolinger, Jared (Sheryl) Dullum, Nathan (Marianna) Dullum, Joel (Danelle) Dullum, Camea (Trevor) Budge, Staci (Arnold) Mecham, Siri (Thomas) Jacobson, and Lindsi (Josh) Din; 32 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson.
