Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away on March 11, 2019. Connie was born on March 17, 1952 in Dallas, TX to Hershell “Smitty” and Lou Smith. Connie and her family moved to Tucson shortly thereafter, and she spent the rest of her life under the glorious Tucson sun. Connie was known for her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, and her empathetic nature. She was the kind of person who could meet someone at the grocery store and become their lifelong friend. She was married to her loving husband Mark in 1976, after a fateful encounter at the Bum Steer, and they never looked back. They loved travel, good wine, watching movies, and laughing together. Connie and her two sisters, Nancy Duckwiler and Sharonne Smith, were very close and enjoyed many adventures. Connie was a daredevil and ringleader and solely responsible for the three of them parasailing together on her 60th birthday. Connie loved her two children, Nick DePascal, who once accidently broke her toe doing a victory dance celebrating the Wildcats’ 1997 NCAA championship win, and Lisa DePascal, who once cried when Connie got her hair cut short. They both adored her. Mostly though they will remember her as a mom who could always make them laugh and was always a shoulder to cry on. Connie is also survived by three grandsons, James, Owen, and Braden, family, and countless friends who supported Connie and the family during the last years of her life. The family would also like to thank the staff at Pacifica and Casa de la Luz Hospice for their excellent care.
Connie was an animal lover and volunteered with the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, providing care and love to the many dogs needing homes. Those wishing to honor Connie’s memory can make a donation to Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
