John was born on August 27th, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri to Mel and Mary Anna McClure. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School and joined the Air Force in 1962. He worked for Westfall GMC for 26 years. John married Georgia in August 1969 and had 4 children. John loved watching baseball, football, NASCAR and talking about his time in France. His courage fighting ALS for over 30 years was inspirational. He was a fighter. He never complained or felt sorry for himself. His love for his family was unending. He fought hard for his family. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren. We are so thankful for having him in our lives for as long as we did.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mel and Mary Anna McClure and his sister Pat Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Georgia “Goff” McClure, 1 brother Gary McClure of Dallas TX, 4 children Christy (Chris) Vaughn, James (Christen), Mike (Cheryl), and Kate (Tony) Cody, 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his name to the ALS Association Mid-America Chapter or Asana Hospice Legacy Foundation.
The family is grateful to everyone at Asana Hospice for the time they spent with John and the family.
Celebration of Life will be at the home of Chris and Christy Vaughn Saturday, March 16th at 3pm.
