Walter L.W. Broughton, 95, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
A WWII Navy veteran, Walter proudly served his country from February 9, 1943-December 10, 1945.
He was a 3rd class torpedo man. He served in the WWII Invasion in South France and convoy duty in the South Atlantic. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailor National Association of Destroyer Veterans.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Estelle Florence Werner. They just celebrated their milestone anniversary on March 12, 2019.
He is also survived by his devoted children: Sandy Wylie, Charlie, Bobby, Pattie Vautier (Carl) and Dave, as well as Dave’s former wife Lynne. He leaves behind his 9 cherished grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Walt worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe. He also liked to fish, going to the horse races and playing with his grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the ladies of Home Instead and Meridian Hospice for the wonderful care given to their father.
The Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ was entrusted with the arrangements.
