Ernest Forest Cagle, 88, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on Thursday March 14, 2019 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. Ernest loved his family and his country. He proudly served in the United States Army. Ernest had only one job in his life after the Army. He worked at Parkdale Mills in Gastonia until he retired. Ernest was a Christian and he was a member at the 8th Street Church of God, in Bessemer City. Ernest was saved when he was in his 50’s. He was watching Jimmy Swaggart on TV when he surrendered his life to Christ. His family said his decision to follow Jesus completely changed his life. Ernest will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Ernest is the son of the late Ila (Morrow) and James Cagle. He was also preceded in death by wives Ida Cagle and Anne (Williams) Cagle. His sister, Mildred Rainwater, died the exact same day as Ernest, only a few hours apart. He is also preceded in death by four other brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish their memories and to continue the legacy of Ernest are his daughters Dorothy Bumgardner and husband Jimmy of Gastonia and Vanessa Rector of Gastonia. Ernest leaves behind step-daughter Jeanette Thompson and husband Junior of Clover, South Carolina and step-son Harvey Gene Turner of York, South Carolina. He also leaves behind his sister Maxine Harkey of Gastonia. Earnest leaves behind 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as other extended family members.
The family will gather to remember Ernest at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. Burial will follow the gathering of friends at Gaston Memorial Park.
