She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Donnell Westapher; son-in-law, Geoffrey Mark Westapher; granddaughter, Andrea Gayle George, her husband Ryan Arthur George, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Gayle George, all of Coppell; and her brother Dr. Robert Lore Vick, of Houston. She is preceded in death by her husband, Col. Alonzo McWilliams Donnell, Jr., M.D, siblings Thomas Vick and Elizabeth Vick Lewis.
Lorrayne was born on May 16, 1925, in Panola County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Atheral Sylvester Vick and Gladys Rane Monteith Vick. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelors of Education, and from the University of Denver with an MBA. She taught school for many years before the birth of the couples’ daughter.
Lorrayne and Mac, who met at Ole Miss, married in Panola County, Mississippi in 1947 after Mac returned from WWII where he served as a B-17 pilot. They moved to Denver, Co where he earned his doctorate in medicine and shortly thereafter, Mac rejoined the United States Air Force. Lorrayne was a proud USAF wife serving in Officers Wives Clubs through their many assignments from Tacoma, WA; Colorado Springs, CO; Montgomery, AL, Hampton, VA, Washington D.C.; San Antonio, TX; and finally retiring in Austin, TX. She held the office of OWC president at Bergstrom A.F.B. from 1972-1973, and later was the President of the Austin Woman’s Club 1984-1985.
Among her many hobbies, Lorrayne enjoyed genealogy and co-authored three books: The Vick Family, The Red Book of Monteith and Thomas Eugene Monteith. She was a member of multiple genealogical societies including: Pathfinders’ Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, Daughter of the American Colonists, Daughters of the Thistle, National Society of Magna Carter Dames, Family of Bruce Society in America, Colonial Order of the Crown, Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America, Jamestown Society, Descendants of Ancient Planters, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, United States Daughters of 1821, Crown of Charlemagne, Colonial Dames of America and the Huguenot Society of America.
Lorrayne spend her last decade in Coppell, living with her daughter and son-in-law and ultimately moving to Silverado Memory Care where she resided for her final years.
