Nellie Beatrice (Bea) Taylor Powell of Bryan, TX went home to her Lord and Savior on March 21, 2019 at Hospice Brazos Valley. A visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 23rd from 5pm-8pm. A funeral Mass, officiated by Father Steve Sauser, will be held at St. Joseph's Church on Sunday, March 24th at 2pm followed by a graveside service at the College Station Cemetery.
Bea was born on March 5, 1920 to James Sanders Taylor (Jimmie) and Catherine Agnes Janowski (Katie) in Houston, TX. She was the first of their children to be born in a hospital. She graduated from Jefferson Davis HS in Houston in 1938. She married Allen Thomas Powell on New Year's Eve 1941. She held a variety of customer service oriented jobs, working in a fancy department store as a young woman and a couple of dress shops in Bryan once her children were grown. She spent many years as an office manager at Binford's Pest Control, trying to retire at least twice.
Bea loved everyone unconditionally and with a peace and faith that inspired the same in anyone near her. She was a devout Catholic who saw the good in us all. She contributed regularly to a number of Catholic service groups and charities. She was a tremendous influence on everyone she touched and will be greatly missed by all.
Bea is survived by her four sons; Richard (Sandra) of Jacksonville, FL, Thomas (Sally) of Bryan, TX, William (Betty) of Bryan, TX, and Lee of College Station, TX as well as 8 grandchilden and numerous great-grandchildren, Paul (Stephanie) and his sons- Will, Cooper, and Hudson; Kristy (Bruce Zgabay) and her children- Blayden, Elizabeth, Andrea, and Jacob; Katie (Allison) and her children- Marisa, Charles, Jeremy, Joey, and Lia; Leah Powell, Julia (Charles Hajduk) and her children- Ellie and Josie; Kevin (Rhiannon) and his children- Makayla, Kaden, and Jackson; Cody (Anne) and his children Kyle, Samantha, and Jackson; and Allen Powell. As one of 6 children she is also survived by many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Allen Thomas Powell, parents, grandparents, siblings, a granddaughter, Rebecca, and many extended family members.
In lieu of flowers the family requests honoring her memory by donated to ETWN at 5817 Old Leeds Rd, Irondale, AL 35210 or any other Catholic service organization.
