Harmon Whitman Wooley

Harmon “Sonny” Wooley, a lifetime resident of Kingsley passed away on Tuesday, March 26th at his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 81. Harmon was born in Davison on December 18, 1937 to Harmon Wooley and Freda Whitman. As a boy, he attended schools in Kingsley where he graduated from high school. As an adult, Harmon embarked on several career paths; one of which took him to Flint to work for GM, but, after 10 years, he returned to Kingsley for good. There he would spend 17 years working for the Traverse City State Hospital and was a volunteer firefighter for the Kingsley Fire Department. His most beloved job, however, was driving bus for Kingsley schools for over 15 years. In his spare time, Harmon would enjoy singing hymns at Kingsley United Methodist Church, bowling and fishing, but nothing compared to the happiness of spending quality time with his grandchildren and walking with his poodle and best friend of 10 years, Storm.

Harmon will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Rosellia (Duell), children, Freda (Damon) Mitchell and Harmon Wooley; grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly), Lonnie (Becky), Joshua (Courtney) Carter, Eli and Ivan Wooley and Tana (Andrew) Clouse; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Timmy, Jude, Roman, Abel and a sixth great-grandchild on the way; Marissa and Faith who were like daughters to him. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Elaine) and Allen.

Friends are invited to join his family in singing the hymns that were so dear to Harmon at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 6th with a memorial gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon, all of which will take place at Kingsley United Methodist Church, 113 Blair Street in Kingsley. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of the Wooley family to the American Heart Association and to Kingsley United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the Munson Hospice team for their care and compassion.
