Born on September 26, 1929 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Caldwell E. Hager and Martha Johnston Hager. On October 26, 1947, she married the love of her life, John A. Plyler Sr., who preceded her in death in 1988.
Martha was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and attended Brevard College. She was a member of First A.R.P. Church in Statesville where she was involved in many ministries. She served as a deacon, was a former President of Women of the Church, a Lay Minister, a member of the Hand Bell Choir, and played the piano for many years. She joyfully taught piano lessons to many students over the years at her home. She was also a member of Town and Country Garden Club and the McDowell Music Club.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved sons, John A. Plyler and wife, Ginny of Raleigh NC and David E. Plyler and wife, Donna of Greensboro, NC; daughter, Jane P. Bogaty and partner, David Marsden of Norwell, Mass; grandchildren, Andrew Bogaty and Martha Bogaty both of Boston, Mass; and sister, Christine Wilson and husband Robert, of Charlotte NC.
A funeral service honoring Martha’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 2:30 at First A.R.P Church in Statesville with Rev. Phil McCoy officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First A.R.P Church, 123 E. Broad St., Statesville, NC 28677.
