Peggy was born in Houston, TX, on October 2, 1932. She graduated from San Jacinto High School where, among other achievements, she was a Golden Gaucho Girl.
Peggy was married to Jack B Hensley on March 6, 1954. Jack, veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, preceded her in death on March 7, 2010, one day following the 56th anniversary of their loving marriage.
Peggy anchored the family home in support of Jack’s career in automotive salvage and other ventures. During the 1980’s, she and Jack operated The Shepherd’s Field, a Houston retail store specializing in Christian books and merchandise and Holy Land imports and objets d’art.
Peggy had unflagging interest in the lives and careers of her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her personal passions aside from the family involved national and state politics as a member of the Texas Tea Party, and also the relationship of her country with the nation of Israel, leading to her membership in Bridges for Peace, a Jerusalem-based Christian organization in support of the ancient homeland. And by far not the least, she was an ardent fan and supporter of the Houston Astros.
Peggy is survived by her sons Richard and wife Mary Ann, of Waldwick, NJ; John and wife Kristie of Laguna Beach, CA; and Robert Hensley of Houston; and by daughters Julianne Secrest and husband Steve of Burleson, TX; Mary Lynn McClendon and husband Dan of Burleson, TX; and Kristen Hensley of Houston . Kristen provided loving care to her mother in her later years, attending her needs and allowing her to live out her days in her home. She is also survived by her stepson Jack Hensley, but was preceded in death in 2018 by her stepdaughter Lynda Peters.
Grandchildren are Max Hensley and Ariel Hensley (Richard); Emerson, Kendall, and Charli Hensley (John); Nathaniel Hensley (Robert); Lindsay Blair and Jaclyn Allee (Julianne); Jack, Cole, and Austin McClendon and Angela Ossar (Mary Lynn); and Bryce Peters and Brittany Hansen (Lynda). Great-grandchildren are Tripp Allee; Ty, Drew, and Luke Blair; Milo Ossar; and Ben Hansen.
Services for Peggy Hensley will be as follows: Viewing on Tuesday, April 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston 77038, and graveside services where she will be laid to rest beside her departed husband on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.
