Sandy M. (Abilheira) Casimiro, age 38, of Swansea, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Aguinaldo J. Casimiro, with whom she shared 21 years of marriage.
Born in Stoughton, MA, a daughter of Manuel and Maria (Brito) Abilheira of Portugal, she had lived in Fall River before moving to Swansea in 2006.
Sandy attended Somerset High School and later obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing from Bristol Community College in Fall River. A Registered Nurse, she worked for Southcoast Health for the past thirteen years. She began her career on the pulmonary unit later transferring to Level 2 Nursery and Labor and Delivery at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Most recently she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Labor and Delivery and Level 2 Nursery. She was a foster mom, a loving mother to her three children and a compassionate and talented Registered Nurse.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include: three children, Paris, Matthew and Elias Casimiro of Swansea; one sister, Kathy Abilheira and her companion James Carroll of Fall River; her best friend, Terry Souza and her husband Joseph of Somerset; paternal grandmother, Albertina Abilheira; father and mother-in-law, Paulo and Luisa Casimiro of Fall River; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; three godchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, one great niece and many friends.
Her funeral will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 at 8:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. John of God Church, 1036 Brayton Ave., Somerset. Visiting hours, Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
