Thomas Ray Murphy (Ray) was born on May 11, 1923, in Ranger, Texas and passed from this earth on April 9, 2019. Ray would have been 96 years old next month. Ray married Rachel Bargsley on August 17, 1943 in Greenville, TX. They were married for 74 years. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas Ray Murphy, Jr. and Michael Lee Murphy and wife Donna Murphy, six grandchildren: Melinda McGee and husband Tim, Craig Murphy and wife Kathy, Brad Murphy and wife Alex, Cathi Murphy, Amy Sterling and husband Scott, and Clint Murphy and wife Sherry. Ray also had seven great-grandchildren: Bryce Murphy, Cole Murphy, Dax Murphy, Travis Murphy, Noah Allen, Luke Sterling, Laurel Sterling, and two great great-grandchildren: Destiny Loredo and Finn Allen.
First of all, Ray was a Christian who faithfully served God. Ray served as an elder at the Greens Bayou church of Christ for many years. He loved his “church family.” Ray and Rachel were an inspiration to so many people of how a Christian should live during their 74 years together. He has left a legacy of putting God first that will never be forgotten.
Ray also was a devoted husband who loved his family dearly. One of the things he enjoyed most about having grandchildren was that he would aggravate, rile them up, get them in trouble, and send them home with their parents. The kids loved every minute of his attention.
Ray and Rachel enjoyed travelling, and they saw many places in the United States on their trips. They both loved to spend time at their lake house. Ray also enjoyed fishing and being with Tommy and Mike.
During the last few years, his family was always by his side and gave him the care that he needed and deserved. Our dad will truly be missed. He touched each one of our family’s lives in so many different ways and because of this he will live forever in each and every one of us.
The services for Thomas Ray Murphy will be held at the Pasadena Funeral Home at 2203 Pasadena Blvd. in Pasadena, TX on Saturday, April 13th. The visitation will be from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. and services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
