He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Darmstadt. He was a proud WWII Army veteran and enjoyed going on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2015. Alton retired from Whirlpool after 43 years. He enjoyed working outside in his yard and loved raising strawberries and Christmas trees.
Alton was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Venita (Meier) Reininga; granddaughter, Lara Porter; sister, Alice Butler, and brothers, Norman, Raymond, Harold, Eddie, Earl and Billie.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Reininga (Glenna) and Alan Reininga (Paula); daughter, Kathleen Gilkey; grandchildren, Tara Green (Derek) and Heath Reininga (Jaime); great-grandchildren, Jessica Porter, Abigail Green, Ethan Green and Madison Reininga, and grandson-in-law, Nick Porter.
The family would like to thank North River for their diligent care of dad and also Heart to Heart Hospice for their care.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church Darmstadt, 1401 W. Boonville-New Harmony Road, officiated by Pastor Stan Temme, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2019 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service at the church.
