Alvin grew up in the Hearne area and graduated from Hearne High School in 1953. After graduating, he helped his parents run the local Flower Shop. In 1958, his country came calling, so Alvin enlisted into the United State Army, and was stationed in Germany during the same time as Elvis. When Alvin was honorably discharged from the service, he moved to Lake Jackson, Texas to work for the Dow Chemical Company. With Dow, he was honored to be a part of the Mag Tech and Warehousing Department. Alvin retired after 30 years of employment and turned his attention to enjoying his pleasures.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Clute. He loved to travel with his beautiful bride, Betty, all over the US and Mexico, but really enjoyed just staying at home. Alvin took great pride in his yard, always making sure it look the best. He never saw a tractor or moped that he did not like to tinker with. Any sport on TV got an extra viewer when Alvin got to watch, and when he was not watching a game, he was an avid western novel reader.
Those left to carry Alvin’s memory on is his wife of 57 years, Betty; sister Kay Clapp Bowman and her husband John; cousins, Bonnie Hancock, Dixie Stanford, Sheryl Broaddus; brother-in-law Cledis Weatherford and his wife Patsy, and their extended family.
The family would like to give many thanks to Ben and Vada Dunn, Lucas Erwin, Leo and Joyce Brock for their extra special care.
