Francis Allen Wilkes passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2019 at the age of 91. Francis was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Benicewicz) Wilkes whom he married in 1948. He is survived by his daughter, Sharron (Barry) Rosati of Sebastian, FL; his grandchildren: Jarrod Wilkes; Sean Barry, and Rachael (Barry) Lynch all of CT and three great grandchildren: Leah, Ryan and Ashley Lynch, and several nieces and nephews.
In his early years he played baseball for the Lee Hat company and fast-pitch softball for Neuman Edler, and he bowled on behalf of Republic Foil. He attended elementary schools in Danbury and the Danbury Trade School. After high school he worked at several Danbury hat shops and also at Industrial Products in Brookfield. He enjoyed his years at Sikorsky Aircraft, and lastly at Republic Foil in Danbury where he retired after 35 years of service.
He traveled to Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and throughout the U.S. He enjoyed gardening; civil war documentaries; old-time movies; big band music; dancing and playing slots at Mohegan Sun. He never missed the Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers games.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on April 30. In lieu of flowers Francis requested that donations be made to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
