Glenn Grundtisch was born in Buffalo on October 29, 1926 and passed away on April 14, 2019 after a short illness. He was a life-long resident of Buffalo, NY and a graduate of Bennett High School. After which he joined the Army and served honorably during the 2nd World War between 1944-1946 as a logistics technician on the Island of Japan.
Following his service he attended Canisius College on the GI Bill and graduated as a member of the DiGamma Honor Society. He was a student at the University School of Business administration and went to become a Vice President of Hewitt Robbins, where he was instrumental in developing the hosing that was used to provide in-air aeronautical fueling.
In the early 1970s when the Buffalo Sabres were awarded a National Hockey League franchise Glenn and a business partner decided to build and operate Ice Hockey Rinks. In 1972 he developed Leisure Rinks in Orchard Park , NY initially and then purchased Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga, out of bankruptcy in 1975. Both of these rinks have been privately operated continuously since he took over. These are the only 2 of over 30 private ice rink facilities initially proposed that remain in operation without government assistance.
Glenn was also an avid Golfer, Tennis player a lover of political discussion as well as a Master Bridge Player. He was also the former chairman of the CEF (Christian Education Fund) and has always been a strong advocate of school choice, and a parents right to choose where their children are educated. Glenn extended his love for education to his children, grand-children and great grand-children and his legacy of fairness and love will remain strong for generations.
