Betty (Gaskill) Mains, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Fountain West in West Des Moines. A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines at 1 p.m. with a Remembrance service starting at 2:30 p.m. A private family burial at Resthaven Cemetery will be at a later date.
Betty was born January 29, 1929 in Audubon, Iowa to Clifton and Mary (Christensen) Gaskill. She graduated from Casey High School in 1947. She met the love of her life, Dale Mains, and were united in marriage in 1950. Together they raised three daughters. Betty worked for Northwestern Bell and retired after 28 years of service. She was very active in the Girls Scouts of America, WDM Methodist Church, and volunteering at the Woodbury Nursing Home doing many activities, where she also won the Volunteer Of The Year award in 1987. Betty loved walking, putting puzzles together, and watching old western movies. Her true passion in life was her family. The time spent at family get together’s making memories that will forever be cherished by those left to honor her memory.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Judy (Don) Stites of West Des Moines, Linda (Keith) Fraser of West Des Moines, and Carol (Paul) Walz of Des Moines; brother, Bill (Jeri) Gaskill of Sanger, TX; grandchildren, Kristin (Kyle) Lattina and their children, Dominic and Olivia Lattina; the late Jason Stites children, Jacob and Kaylee Stites; Crysta (Bill) Burr and their children, Nathan and Jordyn Dykstra: Kathleen Fraser and her children, Jordan and Hayden Fenimore, and Devin and Kyah Simpson; and Kyle Fraser (Chloe King) and their children, Justen, Erica, and Kaylen Fraser. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents, grandson (Jason Stites); three brothers, and three sisters.
