Ronald Yu-Shin Chen, age 65, of Frisco, TX, left his family and friends on earth unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born to Dylan Chen and Mary Wu on May 16, 1953 in Taipei, Taiwan. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He owned and operated Cresco Home Inspection & Pest Control in DFW for over 30 years. He was well liked by his customers, friends, and colleagues in the real estate industry. His generosity and love for laughter will never be forgotten.
Ronald attended, and often got into mischief, at Muzha Elementary School, Taipei Municipal Muzha Junior High School, and Taipei Municipal Fuxing Senior High School. In pursuit of his childhood dream of becoming a pilot, he attended the Taiwan Air Force Institute of Technology and served in the Taiwan Air Force for seven years before then retiring honorably at the rank of Captain. Afterwards, he studied engineering at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, where he met his wife, Marie.
Ron grew up in a loving family and had many pets over the years. He especially loved dogs though he didn’t need to sneak them into the house like he did with silkworms or crickets. He was smart and outgoing, always happy to help his friends and classmates. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, fixing up his motorcycle, and flying airplanes, and he went on to earn his commercial pilot license after leaving the Taiwan Air Force. As he grew older, his enthusiasm for troublemaking waned over time, but his loyalty and integrity remained.
While studying in university, Ron worked in multiple restaurants which allowed him to develop his culinary skills by watching the chefs and practicing his own cooking after hours. He often mentioned that food was major component of culture and was proud to pass down his love of Chinese traditional and street food to his family. He always fondly remembered the abundant guava, lianwu, and orange trees of his childhood home, and in the spirit of passing on similar memories to his children, he planted and tended to his pear trees and prized date tree.
He liked to work with his hands and had many personal projects, ranging from landscaping to building a bookshelf to digging his own koi pond. He constantly worked to make his house a home and encouraged improvements in all endeavors. And although at times he could be adamant that his approach was best, he often made great strides to remain understanding of other perspectives. He enjoyed staying informed of world news, solving Sudoku puzzles, and watching action movies.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dylan, and youngest child, Arlinda.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Marie (née Muoi Truong); children Amanda, Alysia, and Alex; mother Mary; sisters Maggie, Josephine, Yvonne, and Jennifer; and brother Willie.
