Dorothy was born on September 30, 1924 in Gopher, South Dakota to George and Alice (Johnson) Engler. She was the third of Seven children.
In 1936, at age 12, Dorothy moved west with her family, and she attended Washougal High School.
As a young woman, she served a family as full-time caregiver to a young person with disabilities, and later attended secretarial school, worked in the shipyards during the war, and for several attorneys afterwards.
In 1949, she married Robert “Bud” Resner and they enjoyed 69 loving years together. They traveled abroad many times and traveled in their motor home all over the United States. Dorothy was passionate about family, cooking and fishing .
Dorothy was a selfless, devoted wife and mother and a fabulous cook. She thought of others before herself in all things.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2018, and by four brothers and a sister.
She will be remembered by two children: Michael Resner and his wife Sue and Sandi Payne and
her husband John; Brother Art Engler and his wife Gloria; and by four grandchildren , Jacob McLaughlin, Traci Rice, Matthew Resner and Marisa Resner; and by five great-grandchildren, Josie and Lance McLaughlin, Makaley Dryden, and Kalli and Abel Rice.
Visitation from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm will precede a committal service at Willamette National Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday, June 7, 2019. Guests are requested to gather at Lincoln Memorial no later than 12:30 pm so as to be led in procession in a timely manner into the cemetery. All will then be welcome back at the funeral home for a celebration of life from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
