We lost our father John Robert Armstrong Sr. on April 28, 2019 from a sudden illness. He was born to Paul and Isabelle Armstrong on June 12, 1939. His firm belief in God brings us peace knowing he is resting in the presence of Jesus.
He grew up in Oregon with his four brothers. He spent several years as a youngster sick with Rheumatic
Fever. This affected his heart which gave him problems later in life.
He met our mom Alice Allemand when he was 21 they were married on April 21, 1961. Together they
had three children John Jr, Isabelle and Gerald. He worked at Model Laundry and Cleaners in Ellensburg
for 18 years. He ran their commercial linen service. Our parents parted ways in 1980 and our dad
moved to Yakima to buy Westpark Cleaners. He changed the name to John's Drycleaning. He and his
oldest son John worked together in what started out as a mom and pop business. Over the next 34
years with the help of all three of his children, his businesses became the largest drycleaner in Yakima. His youngest son Gerald continued in the family business after dad's retirement in 2014.
While married to his second wife Rosalie his love of travel began. In their time together they spent lots
of time traveling. They traveled to Africa, Egypt, Caribbean, Italy, Alaska and numerous states. We are
so grateful that his brother Harry and he were able to take a cruise together last year. We know
spending this time with his brother brought him great joy. He was also an avid Seahawks and Mariner
fan. Gerald and he were able to enjoy many seasons of watching the Seahawks together.
Our father loved the Lord, his family and treasured his dogs. Crash and Rotti will miss their dad. Our
dad always had a smile on his face and a joke to share. The only thing that brought him great pain was
not knowing where his oldest son John was and if he was ok. He prayed daily for him to come home.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Ray.
John is survived by his two brothers Harry Armstrong and Bill (Bev) Armstrong; his children John
Armstrong Jr, lsabelle (Tonv) Patlan and Gerald (Jill) Armstrong; grandchildren John (Crystal) Armstrong,
Jordan, Anna, and Hailev Patlan, Randy, Zachary and Brook Armstrong, Alyssa (Zachary) Mauch, Angela, James and Maddie O'Shea; great grandchildren Anthony and Leo Armstrong, Lucas Mauch, Dustin and Camilla O'Shea.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. To share a memory of John please visit www.keithandkeithfuneralhome.com.
