William ‘Bill’ Hollie Robirds, 90, of Six Mile, SC went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 6, 2019 in Asheville, NC. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of the late William J. and Julia Lee Robirds, and husband of the late Vera Holland Robirds.
Bill’s faith was very important to him and he served many congregations over the years, most recently as a 26-year member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church in Central, SC. In his younger years, he loved to fish and tend beautiful flower and vegetable gardens with his wife Vera, with whom he enjoyed traveling all over the country. He was active in the community, donating time and talents faithfully over the years, even being honored along with his wife Vera for their service in upstate South Carolina.
Bill was a proud Army veteran and retiree from Duke Power.
Bill is survived by his daughter Kimberly Gantt (Michael) of Crouse, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Linda Heatherly (Arlen) of Canton, North Carolina and Mary Boynton (John) of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Dillon Sutton and Taylor Sutton; nine step-grandchildren, Stephanie Beach, Michael Heatherly, Ed Baer, Shellie Gunter, Sharon Trammel, Jason Pressley, Brian Pressley, Glen Michael Pressley, and Justin Pressley. In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Edward Robirds and six sisters, Opal Cornwell Robirds, Lucille Marshall Robirds, Mabel Irene Robirds, Mary Ethel Robirds, Dorothy Elizabeth Robirds and Hazel Marie Robirds; three step-children, Dorothy Baer, Bill Pressley, and Glenn Pressley; and a step-grandchild, Wendi Sense.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Mausoleum 2/3 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC. A service will follow in the Mausoleum Chapel at 12:00 pm (noon).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville, NC (missionhealth.org/services-treatments/hospice/solace-center/) and the Wounded Warrior Project, supporting Disabled Veterans and their families (woundedwarriorproject.org).
