Lou was born in East Lansing on August 17,1959 to Donald and Mary (Richardson ) Hillman.
He received a BS degree from St Meinrad College, Indiana and an MA in Cultural Studies from Goddard College, Plainfield, VT.
Lou had a passion for life and embraced it with enthusiasm. He loved to travel, and anything to do with the arts. He was an accomplished musician, painter, cook and was an avid reader. Lou was a champion of children and worked as a coach for youth soccer and basketball teams and was also a volunteer with the Big Brother Organization.
He is survived by his daughter, Rita Hillman (Jacob) and granddaughter, Alice Mitchell; mother,
Mary Hillman; siblings, Donald L (Helen), Richard (Teresa), Mary Lou (Keith) Schwaner,
Christine (Paul) Lacroix, Ann (Jeff) Leipprandt and Lisa (Tom) Rolka, along with 18 nieces and
nephews and their families . He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hillman.
A wake will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing Chapel on Thursday, May 9
from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.
Visitation will be at noon on Friday, May 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing, followed by the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Gary Koenigsknecht.
