Born in Skudeneshavn, Norway on September 13, 1921 a daughter of the late Severin and Kristine (Falnes) Roijen she went on to graduate from secretarial school in Kopervik, Norway. Liv, her husband and sons migrated to the United States after World War II. They settled in Fairhaven where she lived for the rest of her life.
Mrs. Haines was very active in her community and church. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and she served as Treasurer for Fairhaven Nurses Association at its founding and many years after, Superintendent of Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Liv was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Women’s Guild and Altar Guild. She was elected and served as Secretary for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Eastern United States for six years.
Mrs. Haines regularly served at the soup kitchen in New Bedford. She loved to write about the simple things in life, which were included often in the church newsletter she was in charge of. She enjoyed hiking, skiing, swimming and taking long walks. Liv enjoyed travelling back to her hometown in Norway to be with friends and family. She was happiest when with her family and many grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Arne Haines and his wife Sherry of Corvallis, OR and Severin Haines and his wife Cindy of Fairhaven; two daughters, Audrey Schroeder and her husband Brian of Pleasanton, CA and Anne Jorgensen and her husband John of Fairhaven; grandchildren, Sean Kennedy, Erik Haines, Liv Gauthier, Hannah Bungert, Meg Matasci, Hans Schroeder, and Karl Jorgensen; five great grandchildren and many and nephews. She was the sister of the late Turid Soiland and Karin Sorensen of Skudeneshavn, Norway.
Her visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Place, Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main St., Fairhaven.
