Saroja W. Ayappa, 82, of Sherman, IL. was called home to Jesus on May 11th 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Spfld., IL. Saroja was born in India on October 2nd 1936, to parents Rao and Sundramma. She married John Wesley Ayappa and had three children. Saroja studied midwifery and nursing in India. For seven years, she practiced as an RN at Harlem Hospital in New York, and thirty years at St. John’s Hospital in Spfld., IL. on the medical 8th floor and mainly on the mother-baby unit. Saroja took pride in her work and touched the lives of patients and colleagues who fondly remember her.
Saroja’s faith, trust, and love in Jesus gave her strength and joy to live life victoriously. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Saroja loved to pray, listen to hymns and she read the complete Bible many times. She enjoyed attending her Bible Study Fellowship group. She loved to travel the world and was a master at board games. She was generous to others and was very young at heart. Saroja was known for her beautiful handmade greeting cards. She supported the educational needs of needy children and had a big compassionate heart. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.
Preceded in death were her father, husband, mother, and brother. Saroja is survived by her three children: Catherine S. Edward (Deepak), Paul S. Ayappa (Debbie), E. Suma Jeyaseelan (Robert). Grandchildren: Neeraj, Priya, Nikhil, Katra, Zach, Katie, and Robert Wesley.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17th from 5pm to 7:30pm at Bisch and Son Funeral Home. 505 East Allen St. in Spfld. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday May 18th at 11AM at Sherman United Methodist Church. 2336 E. Andrew Road in Sherman.
