Born Carol Mae Fenwick in 1928 to George and Gertrude Fenwick in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, she found her vocation early: to care for others with compassion, kindness, and loyalty at every turn. By the time she met the love of her life while in her senior year of high school, she could have turned pro. For she was only 18 but already the woman who would lead our family and keep us together through sun and storm.
Carol married that young man in 1947, and for nearly 70 years Alexander Kloster knew the joy of unwavering support, adoration, and commitment, and he gave it right back. Al and Carol, never one without the other, became the epitome of longevity and the acme of devotion to all who knew them. Theirs was a partnership marked by banter and fun and sustained by a deep gratitude for one another.
Al and Carol had three daughters, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carol delighted them all with her unpredictable humor, impressed them with her intelligence, and comforted them with the home she created, one to which they always wanted to return. She leaves us with such an indelible presence that her arms are still felt around us, her voice is never far from our hearing, and her lively blue gaze still shines before us. Her legacy is that she was so fully present in our lives as a mother, grandmother, and friend she will never be truly gone. Together again, Al and Carol have undoubtedly brought their love story to heaven. The angels are laughing, and God is happy to have them home.
Carol is survived by her daughters Barbara Fardell (Gary Bergstrom), Susin Kloster (Dennis Jenkins) and Alexandra Kloster (Paul Graham), grandchildren Jesse Rose, Frank Fardell, Caitlin McGee, Anna Corniel (Allen), Gertie and Clara Graham, one great-granddaughter, Leona Corniel, and her brother Gordon Fenwick.
She was preceded in death by many beloved family members including her husband Alexander Kloster (2017), her son-in-law, Clifford Fardell and her brothers Jay Fenwick and Mason Fenwick.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 27th at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, Michigan. A luncheon will follow.
